On Wednesday evening, it was reported that the Argentina international was undergoing the second part of his medical at Villa Park. The loan is expected to turn permanent with the conditions easily achieved.
If that is the case, Chelsea will receive a fee of £43m. A deal that sees Chelsea turn a profit on Garnacho despite his dismal first season at Stamford Bridge. He leaves with fans relieved, but is he misunderstood?
Chelsea sources defend Garnacho with exit now imminent
On the pitch, the former Man United winger managed just one Premier League goal. He failed to prove his £40m transfer fee, with fans questioning his body language, attitude and overall contribution.
However, off the pitch, Garnacho is a different animal. The Mail’s Kieran Gill reports that Garnacho is somewhat “misunderstood” according to insiders: “Garnacho arrived at Chelsea without a pre-season.
“Then played under three different head coaches; it wasn’t a straightforward 2025-26. Insiders describe him as shy/misunderstood/pleasant off the pitch. Just didn’t perform. Still only 22. See if Villa is better.”

The relationship between Villa and Chelsea continues to remain strong. Since BlueCo took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022, six players have swapped clubs, including Ian Maatsen and Axel Disasi.

Omari Kellyman, Carney Chukwuemeka, Garnacho and Rogers take that total to six, and it could be more before the end of the window. Indeed, Emery wants to reunite with Nicolas Jackson this summer.
But one thing is for sure: Chelsea’s ability to sell and rake in a decent transfer fee is only strengthened further by Garnacho’s move to the Midlands – even if Chelsea may have to wait 12 months for the fee.
