There’s been a number of positives at Chelsea in the opening stages of the season, including the form of Moises Caicedo.

Moises Caicedo, 22, has started every league game of the season as he emerges as a key figure.

The all-action central midfielder impressed in the weekend’s 3-0 away win at West Ham. In fact, Alan Shearer claimed Caicedo is getting back to his best after his impressive display at the London Stadium.

Moises Caicedo the top tackler in the Premier League

WhoScored data has shared via X that Chelsea’s Caicedo is currently first place in the entire Premier League for the amount of tackles this season.

The midfield destroyer, who’s so aggressive out of possession, has made a league-high 21 tackles so far this campaign after five gameweeks.

If we look back to the 2023/24 league campaign, Caicedo topped the charts for the most tackles by any Chelsea player. Here is the top five Blues tacklers last season, as relayed by the Premier League’s official website:

Why Chelsea splashed the cash

It’s going to be very difficult for Caicedo to ever shake off his price tag, but he’s proven in this calendar year why Chelsea splashed out £115m (BBC) to sign him from Brighton in the summer of 2023.

In terms of his defensive work, Caicedo is so effective at the base of midfield protecting his back four. He tackles, intercepts and reads the game so intelligently.

Also, the Ecuador international is pretty underrated when it comes to his quality with the ball at his feet. His perfectly weighted pass assisted a Nicolas Jackson goal on Saturday versus West Ham.

Hopefully, Caicedo continues to go from strength to strength as one of the pivotal stars in the squad.
