Moises Caicedo helped Chelsea to a 3-0 win against West Ham United on Saturday.
Moises Caicedo put in an excellent performance, the kind that former Chelsea stars Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante would have been proud of.
Makelele and Kante were terrific at winning the ball back during their spells at Stamford Bridge, and Caicedo did his best to imitate the two Frenchmen in his side’s victory over the Hammers.
According to Squawka, he made eight tackles, the joint most by a Chelsea player in a Premier League game since Marcos Alonso in 2019. Nicolas Jackson has come in for a lot of praise after his two goals, but Caicedo also deserves some credit for Chelsea’s win.

Chelsea fans compare Moises Caicedo to N’Golo Kante
For plenty of Chelsea supporters, Caicedo’s display at the London Stadium was Kante-esque.
During and after the game, they took to X to compare the two midfielders.
One Chelsea fan said: “Moises Caicedo was winning tackles left and right today. He was literally everywhere. This is a prime N’Golo Kante performance.”
Another said: “Moises Caicedo is slowly filling up the hole that N’Golo Kante left in Chelsea fans’ hearts.”
And finally, one Chelsea supporter posted: “Caicedo is Kante’s replacement.”
This was not Caicedo’s first good game of the season. After Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth last weekend, Troy Deeney claimed Caicedo is starting to deliver in a blue shirt.
Moises Caicedo always had the potential to be a Kante-like figure for Chelsea
Caicedo’s defensive numbers are excellent. For example, the Ecuadorian has averaged 3.04 tackles per 90 minutes over the last year, putting him in the 90th percentile among midfielders (FBref).
For him, it has always been about whether he can ignore all of the noise about his price tag and play his natural game. And this season, Caicedo has done just that.
Kante is a Chelsea legend, helping the Blues to win the Premier League title and Champions League trophy. There is a long way to go before Caicedo reaches the World Cup winner’s status.
However, if you are just talking about profile, then the Caicedo and Kante comparisons are certainly fair.
