England is about to become the home of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel again.
Thomas Tuchel was at Chelsea for 17 months before being sacked by the club in 2022 after an underwhelming start to the season.
The 51-year-old returned to Germany to become Bayern Munich manager, but since then he has left the Bundesliga outfit to take up the role of Three Lions boss, meaning that he is set to base himself in England again.
The 2026 World Cup is still two years away, but it looks like the new England manager is already looking beyond that. Chelsea want Tuchel to win the World Cup despite sacking him.
Thomas Tuchel’s post-World Cup plans
Tuchel is one of the best managers in the world and only has a short-term contract with England.
Many would expect the German to take over at a top club in the near future. However, if Tuchel has it his way, it looks like he will be sticking with England for a while.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Tuchel wants to coach England at Euro 2028 if the Three Lions are successful at the 2026 World Cup.
Not everyone will be happy to hear that. Gary Neville was disappointed with Tuchel’s appointment, desiring the FA to hire an English coach instead.
Could Thomas Tuchel return to Chelsea after his England gig?
Some Chelsea supporters would probably love to see Tuchel return to the club in the near future. After all, this is the man who won the Blues their second Champions League trophy.
However, after being sacked by Chelsea’s current owners, it is hard to imagine him coming back to work with Todd Boehly and co.
For now, though, a new manager is obviously not something Chelsea fans have to worry about. The club only appointed Enzo Maresca in June and the 44-year-old is doing a good job at the moment.
Chelsea are only three points outside of the top four and have only lost against Manchester City and Liverpool so far this season.
