BBC Pundit Alan Shearer has claimed he cannot believe what he saw from Robert Sanchez at the weekend for Chelsea.

He told Match of the Day that he has no idea why the goalkeeper tried the pass he did that eventually led to Declan Rice scoring for Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were in cruise control in the London derby until Sanchez’s stray pass fell to the England international, who finished brilliantly from distance.

The poor moment has come off the back of a string of impressive performances from the goalkeeper, meaning the mistake at the key time is a hard pill to swallow.

Mauricio Pochettino was quick to defend his player after the game, with many very quick to jump on the hateful bandwagon.

Even some pundits though were left mind-blown at the moment, with Shearer now claiming he had to just get rid of it rather than try the difficult pass.

Shearer on Sanchez

He said: “They [Arsenal] had to rely on a mistake from Sanchez. I mean, what on earth is he doing there? I haven’t got a clue. Just clear it and get rid of it.

“And then all of a sudden after 77 minutes, they get themselves into the game. That was their first shot on target.”

Despite this moment, Chelsea had plenty of positives to take from the display against their unbeaten opponents.

Notably, the displays of Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer in the unique duel number 10 roles were extremely impressive.

It remains to be seen whether Sanchez remains in the starting side for the upcoming Premier League game against Brentford.

However, it would seem harsh for him to be dropped for the first time this season off the back of one mistake playing out from the back.
