Tyrique George is slowly becoming a bit of a fan favourite at Chelsea as he continues to impress in the first team.

At the age of 19, Tyrique George is beginning to make his impact in the Chelsea squad. The teenage attacker has been a regular in the cup competitions this season, plus Blues manager Enzo Maresca is beginning to trust him with minutes in the Premier League.

On Sunday afternoon, George sparked Chelsea’s comeback with the equalising goal in a vital 2-1 away victory over Fulham in the league.

Chelsea supporters are super impressed by George and want to see him starting in the remaining league fixtures this season.

It was only in December 2024 that both George and Josh Acheampong were officially promoted from the academy team to the senior group. At the moment, it looks like both could be superb long-term options for the club.

People around Chelsea’s academy feared Tyrique George would struggle for minutes in first team

According to The Daily Mail, those around Chelsea’s academy had ‘fears’ that George could struggle following his promotion into the first-team picture.

Apparently, there were concerns about the position the English youngster would play in a competitive Blues squad. However, they’ve seen him step up and impress in multiple different roles.

The report adds that the Blues previously considered whether they needed to sign cover on the wings for the suspended Mykhailo Mudryk in January, but George’s progress was a factor in them not signing someone.

In Chelsea’s academy, George largely played as a left-winger. However, we’ve seen him pop up on both the left and right flanks in the first team. In addition, he’s even started to provide an alternative option to play as a striker, scoring against Fulham on the weekend after his introduction as a No 9.

Back in February, Maresca praised George by explaining that he’s developing well. It feels like in the last few weeks he’s gone up another gear, though.

The youngster’s scored his first two senior goals in April, netting once in the Conference League and once in the Premier League, so his confidence must be high.

He’s definitely turning out to be a real breakout star at Stamford Bridge this term, but let’s wait and see how he handles the extra attention on him.

Will Tyrique George get more minutes?

Chelsea are entering a crucial final stretch of the season, where we do expect George to play an important role.

The Blues have five Premier League games remaining to get themselves into the top five to secure Champions League qualification. Plus, they’re into the semi-finals of the Conference League.

It came as a real shock when Christopher Nkunku was completely omitted from the matchday squad versus Fulham on Sunday. Remarkably, Maresca confirmed Nkunku’s was a “technical decision”.

That left George as the understudy to Jackson on Chelsea’s bench, and he responded with a great goal during his cameo performance.

As we look ahead to Saturday’s league game at home to Everton, it feels like George may now be ahead of Nkunku in the attacking pecking order.
