Journalist David Ornstein has now shared what people in football are thinking about former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

He told The Athletic that he believes the Englishman is still well-regarded as he prepares to take his next job in the game.

It was thought that he was the perfect candidate in the eyes of owner Todd Boehly, who made the decision to sack club-favourite Thomas Tuchel just weeks into the season.

While Potter started strongly, it quickly looked as if he was out of his depth, and struggling to deal with an already bloated squad that continued to grow in January.

He was removed from his post late in the campaign, and has so far not taken another job despite links across Europe.

People in football still really like Potter

Ornstein has now claimed though that he is still highly-regarded in the game, and is just awaiting to be convinced that an opportunity is right for him before returning.

He said: “The England job is always one to keep an eye on given the FA likes him as well. Despite what happened at Chelsea, Potter deservedly remains well-regarded and he is also well-connected. He has been travelling a lot; we’ve seen him caught on camera at several matches and no doubt he is working on improving and preparing ahead of the next opportunity.

“He will want to be convinced that opportunity, the project and those involved are absolutely right for him — whether in the UK or abroad, club or international level — before jumping back in.”

Baring in mind what Frank Lampard has said about the Chelsea squad he found when replacing Potter on a temporary basis last season, the former Brighton man perhaps was set up to fail at Stamford Bridge.

The experience does not have seemed to put the Blues off a potential move back to Brighton when looking for another manager.

It has been claimed that they are interested in a move for Roberto De Zerbi if they make the decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine remains in the bottom half of the table right now, and missed the chance to win the first trophy of the new era at Stamford Bridge following a loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.
