Petr Cech has shared his concerns about Chelsea and their very young squad.

It has been a difficult season for this inexperienced Chelsea side, who are now ninth in the Premier League table following the weekend’s results.

For many, the Blues’ inexperience is why they have struggled so much in the current campaign, and Cech has now shared his thoughts.

Chelsea fans don’t want to see Alejandro Garnacho start against Nottingham Forest, but who can replace him?

Petr Cech thinks Chelsea’s young players are thinking who’s going to help them

Cech thinks it is tough for Chelsea’s young players, especially when things are not going well like now.

At times like this, the former goalkeeper reckons the more inexperienced members of the squad are looking around and questioning who is going to help them.

Discussing the lack of seasoned footballers in the Chelsea dressing room in an interview with The Athletic, Cech said: “When the majority of your squad is young and doesn’t have experience with going through difficult times, they almost look at each other thinking, ‘OK, who’s going to help me?’ It might be difficult for them.”

The Blues could look to address the above in the summer when the transfer window opens. It is already being reported that Chelsea now have new criteria for their transfer targets, with experience being one box they need to tick.

The Club World Cup winners are not expected to abandon their transfer strategy entirely, but it does appear that some changes will be made to it.

Chelsea’s leaders

Taking a look at Chelsea’s squad, there certainly are not too many players who have the necessary leadership qualities to rally the team on the pitch when things are not going to plan.

Tosin Adarabioyo has leadership qualities, but the problem is he is not a starter at Stamford Bridge. This season, he has only started seven games in the Premier League.

Reece James is Chelsea captain and has become more of a leader, but he has been out injured.

Ultimately, Chelsea need more players who are captains without the armband. They need more commanders like John Terry and Didier Drogba.

Chelsea probably would not have dropped so many points from winning positions if they just had some more experience and leadership on the pitch.
