One reason why Jose Mourinho was such a success at Chelsea was because of how invincible he made the Blues at home.

Under Mourinho, Chelsea were able to win the Premier League title on three occasions, not losing a single top-flight game at Stamford Bridge during the Special One’s first spell in the dugout.

It is a record that is unlikely to ever be broken and had it not been for one of the club’s former players, it could have gone on for a little bit longer.

Thanks to Mourinho’s coaching, Chelsea also have the record for fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season, letting in just 15 back in the 2004/05 campaign.

Fabio Borini ends Jose Mourinho’s 77-game unbeaten streak

Having once been on Chelsea’s books, even playing for the club’s academy, Fabio Borini would have dreamt about scoring at Stamford Bridge and becoming a hero there.

However, the Italian eventually became the villain instead after ending one of the most impressive runs in Premier League history.

In April 2014, Borini did manage to score at Stamford Bridge. The only problem was it came against Chelsea!

Playing for Sunderland, the striker scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over his former side, ending Mourinho’s 77-game unbeaten streak at Stamford Bridge. Prior to that, the Portuguese had not lost a single league game at home as Chelsea manager.

It did not take long for him to get over that, though, because only a year later, Mourinho would go on to lead Chelsea to a fourth Premier League title in the club’s history.

Chelsea had a quality team, possessing Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and so many other top players. But there is no doubt that Mourinho was the mastermind behind that success.

Chelsea’s title hopes took a major hit

Not only was Mourinho looking to maintain his incredible run at Stamford Bridge, but he was also trying to steer Chelsea to what would have been their fourth Premier League crown.

It came a year later, but they actually could have won it during the 2013/14 season. However, that defeat against Sunderland left the Blues two points behind leaders Liverpool, who had a game in hand.

The Reds, of course, could not get over the line either and were eventually overtaken by Manchester City. But regarding Chelsea, had they not dropped silly points against Sunderland, Norwich City and Crystal Palace towards the end of the campaign, their trophy cabinet would look a lot different right now.
