Enzo Maresca had admitted in a press conference he had no idea when James would be back, sparking worry that his injury issues were getting no better.

However, there were even reports that he had an outside chance of being named in the squad to face Liverpool at the weekend, with their perfect away record under real theat.

Reece James expected to return November 7 for Chelsea

It is far more likely though that they will be more cautious with his return, especially with Malo Gusto fit and performing well at the moment.

According to the Evening Standard, the expected return of James is set to come in the Conference League, when the Blues face Noah on November 7.

This would see him miss a number more games, although likely be the best thing for someone who has had a nightmare few years due to injury.

James’ role under Enzo Maresca unclear

It remains to be seen the role he would play under Maresca. He was featuring in an inverted role during pre-season.

Despite his lack of appearances for the club in the last 12 months or so, there is still a lot of excitement amongst supporters over just how big an impact he can have upon his return.

There will no doubt be hunger to see him combine with Noni Madueke down the right, with the winger reaching a new level with his performances under the new manager this season so far.
