Chelsea captain Reece James is set to undergo surgery on his hamstring problem.

Reece James, 24, has been very unfortunate with injuries throughout his career so far.

The talented right-back picked up a fresh problem earlier this month, which means he’s only played nine games across all competitions so far this season.

Now, there’s speculation that the England international will fly overseas for repairs.

Incoming surgery

The Daily Mail has shared today that James is set to fly to Finland to have surgery on his hamstring injury.

It is explained that the Blues skipper will miss between three and four months of the season while he recovers.

The report adds that there’s been reluctancy to go down the surgery route because of the lengthy absence, but the hope is that this can cure an issue that has plagued his career.

Apparently, depending on the rehabilitation process, there’s hope James is back playing for his club before the end of the season. There’s the Euro 2024 tournament next summer that England will dream of winning, but can the Chelsea defender get himself on the plane in time for that?

Our personal view is that trying to fix this problem once and for all is the right approach. Everybody is well aware of just how fantastic James can be when he’s fit and firing, but these repeated injury setbacks are getting too much now.

Reece James injury

Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has recently shared how frustrated James is with his current injury situation. We can assure you that the mood in the fanbase is very similar.

“We brought him (James) back step-by-step, the perfect way to build his confidence and make a full recovery. It is difficult for him to accept. He is really frustrated,” Pochettino said via Nizaar Kinsella’s X account.

Our hope is that Malo Gusto, 20, gets a proper run of games as the starting right-back during James’ absence.

We’ve seen versatile defender Axel Disasi cover at times in the full-back position, but Gusto is the most like-for-like replacement for James in the Blues squad.
