Aston Villa and Chelsea doing transfer business together has essentially turned into Premier League accounting fan fiction. At this point, executives from both boardrooms probably have each other on speed dial just to keep profit and sustainability regulators off their backs.
One minute Villa sells a teenager with barely six senior appearances for £19 million, the next day Chelsea ships a left-back up the M6 for double that, all while accountants high-five in the background.
And it doesn’t look like the partnership is slowing down anytime soon, with Morgan Rogers and now Austin MacPhee making their way to Stamford Bridge.

Aston Villa fans react to Chelsea signing Austin MacPhee
Austin MacPhee will leave his role as Aston Villa’s set-piece coach after five years, after Chelsea triggered his release clause.
Villa had made attempts to convince the long-serving coach to stay.
And it’s safe to say that Aston Villa fans are not happy on X.
One fan said: “Rogers and Tilemans going was ok. MacPhee leaving is a massive hit to us. Chelsea are gaining on hell of a set-piece coach here.”
“Think MacPhee to Chelsea probably hurts more than Rogers. Unless there is some serious business, in and out in the rest of the transfer window, I’m going into what should be a monumental season thoroughly depressed and deflated.” another supporter had this to say.
Another supporter shared the same outlook: “I’m far more upset about Andy MacPhee leaving Aston Villa for Chelsea than I am Morgan Rogers.”
“A lot of our goals came from set pieces last season. This ain’t great.” this fan pointed out the reason behind his displeasure at the news.
It seems as if MacPhee has left his mark on this supporter: “Okay, I could live with Rogers going but this one is gonna be a challenge to replace.”
