Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster was left really impressed by the performances of a number of Chelsea’s young stars in the United States last night.

He told Chelsea’s Instagram page that their sharpness in the final third was what really separated the two sides in last night’s affair.

The Blues ran out 5-0 winners in their opening pre-season friendly, with Mauricio Pochettino being rewarded for his bravery in naming an exceptionally young side against the League 2 opposition.

A number of exciting Todd Boehly signings were on show in Chelsea blue for the first time last night, with many taking their opportunity to leave a mark on the new manager’s thinking.

Foster wowed by Chelsea youngsters

One of the standouts was Cesare Casadei, fresh off a brilliant summer representing his national team at youth level. He left an impression on pundit Jason Cundy who was watching the game.

Foster was particularly impressed by the displays of a number of young players last night, referring to their confidence on the ball and how sharp they were in their first outing.

He said: “Wow. It’s from this third here, the final third. When they get the ball in the final third, wow. Runners down the wing, players coming inside going outside, and they’re always taking the ball on the run.

“They’re either already running or they’re picking it and running with it so it just gets you on the back foot straight away and it’s good to see. There’s so much pace, they’re so sharp.”

While there are certainly bigger tests that await the young Blues under Pochettino this summer, there will certainly be good signs and feelings to take into the next game as they continue to prepare for the first Premier League game against Liverpool.
