Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was caught by surprise after learning about one of his stats from his side’s 3-1 win against Crystal Palace last night.

Conor Gallagher proved to be Chelsea‘s match-winner, putting Mauricio Pochettino‘s men 2-1 up in the 91st minute.

It was his second goal of the game, but scoring was not his only contribution on the night. The 24-year-old put in a real shift, running 13km at Selhurst Park, according to Sky Sports. Upon learning that, he was left almost speechless, replying with “wow” when speaking to the same broadcaster.

Gallagher is starting to find his goalscoring touch. He was also able to net against Aston Villa in the FA Cup last week.

All in all, the Englishman has been such a key player for Chelsea this season.

Conor Gallagher stunned by the amount of ground he covered against Crystal Palace

Gallagher actually felt that he did not run that much at Selhurst Park, but the numbers suggest otherwise.

When told by Sky Sports presenter David Jones that he ran 13km, the England international said: “Wow, that’s far innit! Yeah, exactly, I always want to run as hard as I can for the team, but it didn’t feel like I ran that far today, to be fair, because we had so much of the ball. But that’s good!”

Crystal Palace game shows why Chelsea need to keep hold of Conor Gallagher

Chelsea are at risk of losing Gallagher, with the player’s contract expiring in 2025.

As a result, the club may have to sell their academy graduate in the summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

However, when you look at how he performed at Selhurst Park last night, can they really afford to let him go?

Gallagher was always a player who worked hard on the pitch, but he is now starting to show that he can score goals, just like he did during his loan spell at Palace.

Ultimately, we think Chelsea should be handing their midfielder a new contract, but it does not look like it is going to be that simple.
