Chelsea youngster Cole Palmer captained England’s Under-21s side last night for the first time.
Cole Palmer, 21, is away on international duty with the Young Lions and it interrupts a strong start to his Chelsea career.
The left-footed attacker wore the armband on Thursday evening as England’s U21s thrashed Serbia by a 9-1 scoreline in a qualifying match.
England boss Lee Carsley confirmed post-match that Palmer left the field during the second half against Serbia with a “dead leg”, as quoted by journalist Jordan Davies. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious for him.

Palmer uploaded a post on Instagram after England’s demolition against Serbia, which included several interesting responses.
Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill, who’s currently with the senior England squad, expressed shock at his club teammate captaining his country.

Incidentally, The Times reports that 20-year-old star Colwill could make his senior England debut tonight during the international friendly against Australia.

Hopefully, Palmer’s not a million miles away from a senior call-up himself to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The young talent left Manchester City in the summer in search of regular first-team minutes at Chelsea, which is a decision that is already starting to pay off.
He’s forced his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s XI lately with a string of eye-catching performances. His quality and creativity is making him shine bright right now in a Blues squad struggling at the top end of the pitch.
Palmer scored and assisted in Chelsea’s 4-1 Premier League win against Burnley before the international break.
