Liam Delap has been left with plenty to think about after holding talks with Xabi Alonso over where he fits into the manager’s Chelsea plans.

Liam Delap is currently putting in the hard yards in pre-season training under Xabi Alonso, looking absolutely determined to make his mark at Stamford Bridge.

He’s clearly committed for the long haul, even recently buying a house in London to settle down. But cementing a spot in this Chelsea side won’t be easy.

The striker position is incredibly congested right now, with Joao Pedro established as a key figure and Nicolas Jackson returning to push for starts, as well as Emmanuel Emegha joining.

It leaves Delap facing intense competition as he fights to climb the pecking order and prove he can lead the line for Alonso’s team.

Liam Delap told he has no future at Chelsea

According to a surprising report from Portuguese outlet A Bola, Chelsea are preparing for a massive summer clearance, with Liam Delap named alongside Filip Jorgensen, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Alejandro Garnacho as players granted permission to leave.

It’s Delap’s inclusion that really stings for fans who hoped to see the young striker kick on under Xabi Alonso.

Despite picturing him hard at work in pre-season, this latest update suggests the club is ready to cut ties, leaving the forward looking for a new home sooner rather than later.

Everton and Newcastle United are two of the clubs who have been interested in Delap.

The last chance for Liam Delap to prove himself

With Chelsea heading east for their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, this summer represents a final chance for Liam Delap to save his Stamford Bridge career.

However, all eyes will be on whether Xabi Alonso actually names the young striker in his travelling squad.

The Blues’ tour kicks off against Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium on Tuesday, July 28.
