How much Chelsea are demanding from Everton to sign Liam Delap

While Everton are incredibly keen to offer Liam Delap a fresh start, one thing that could get in the way is Chelsea’s valuation.

Liam Delap’s debut campaign at Chelsea has brought him back down to earth after Ipswich. The 23-year-old struggled under the Stamford Bridge spotlight, enduring a 26-game goal drought to end the season and leaving fans labeling him an unready flop.

This difficult year has fueled intense speculation of a swift exit, with Everton, Newcastle United, and even Fulham looking to take advantage of Delap‘s potential availability.

Should Delap depart, Xabi Alonso still has Nicolas Jackson, Joao Pedro, and incoming Dutch forward Emmanuel Emegha, though only the Brazilian has really proved himself.

If you’re the president of a football club, who do you hire first: Jose Mourinho or Xabi Alonso?🤔

Chelsea set a price tag of £40 million for Liam Delap

The Daily Mail claims that Liam Delap is admired by Everton, but Chelsea say the price is £40m plus.

All the reports we have seen suggest that Delap will be given a chance to prove himself this summer under Xabi Alonso, so an exit may not even occur.

However, there’s an added pressure on the Englishman, as last season it was just Marc Guiu and Joao Pedro he was fighting for a spot, but now the competition has gone up a level.

So this pre-season will be vital for his future.

Liam Delap for £40 million seems excessive

Securing a fee north of £40 million for Liam Delap would represent an absolute masterstroke for Chelsea. Having invested £30 million to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge from Ipswich Town just last summer, the Blues are looking at a player whose stock has heavily plummeted.

Delap’s debut campaign was alarming, so turning an immediate profit on a forward who looked completely out of his depth in West London would be brilliant.

However, Liam Rosenior wanted to give Delap a second season at Chelsea, so it remains to be seen as to what Xabi Alonso decides.
