The chopping and changing at Stamford Bridge might be far from over, but Jamie Gittens and Dario Essugo appear to have done enough to please Chelsea.
Jamie Gittens and Dario Essugo experienced contrasting, yet beneficial, debut campaigns at Chelsea.
The winger struggled for consistency which was mainly due to injury issues, primarily used as an impact substitute when he has been given the opportunity.
On the other hand, Essugo’s season was heavily disrupted by an unfortunate long-term thigh injury requiring surgery, which severely limited his opportunities. However, his return to fitness late in the campaign allowed him to log valuable senior minutes and showcase his talents.
This left both men potentially fearing for their futures this summer.
RATE 1-10: Is Marc Cucurella’s exit good business by Chelsea?
Chelsea to keep Dario Essugo and Jamie Gittens
The Athletic are reporting that Jamie Gittens and Dario Essugo are part of the plans at Chelsea for the 2026-27, despite uncertainty.
There had been claims that Gittens had opportunities to leave Chelsea this summer, but it seems as if Xabi Alonso may have had the final say.
On the other hand, this points towards an exit for Alejandro Garnacho, who the Blues have demanded a £40 million fee for should he leave the club.
Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?
Hall is being linked with a return to Chelsea following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid 🇪🇸
Dario Essugo deserves an opportunity
Dario Essugo has shown more than enough potential to warrant a genuine opportunity in Chelsea’s first-team setup for the upcoming campaign. Rather than mirroring Enzo Fernandez, he possesses the raw physical power and defensive instincts of a true destroyer, sharing traits with Moises Caicedo.
His ability to break up play, anchor the midfield, and win crucial ground duels makes him the ideal profile to replicate the screen that N’Golo Kante once provided.
Plus, with Fernandez potentially leaving, Romeo Lavia having his injury issues and Valentin Barco operating in a slightly more advanced role, it’s vital to have the squad depth.
