Pundit Richard Keys is appalled by the Premier League announcement ahead of this weekend’s match between Chelsea and Fulham.

Chelsea host close rivals Fulham this Saturday afternoon in a Premier League fixture.

The announcement of the match officials has already wound up some people before a ball is even kicked.

Confirmed via the Premier League’s official website, Anthony Taylor will referee Chelsea vs Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Richard Keys has delivered a rant on social media regarding the appointment of several officials to the next round of Premier League games.

This included a dig at 45-year-old Englishman Anthony Taylor, the referee that received some stick for a decision on Monday night. He awarded a very soft penalty kick to Manchester United during their 2-0 away win over Wigan Athletic after a challenge on Bruno Fernandes.

Keys wrote on X: “You can’t make this up. Chris Kavanagh who oversaw DCL (Dominic Calvert-Lewin) appealed s/o gets Newcastle/City & VAR for Utd/Spurs this w/e. Altrincham based Anthony Taylor conned by Fernandes gets Chelsea. Craig Pawson gets Brighton. Michael Salisbury Sheff Utd. They should all be given the w/e off to study.”

Chelsea vs Fulham

It feels like almost every referee in the Premier League has been under the spotlight at least a few times, so we’ll abstain from digging out certain individuals.

However, it’s interesting to think about the idea of punishing referees with bans/suspension after any glaring errors.

Our hope is that the West London derby between Chelsea and Fulham isn’t influenced by a major decision from the officials.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side go into the weekend off the back of losing 1-0 to Middlesbrough in last night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. As for Fulham, they take on Liverpool this evening in the first leg of the other semi-final.
