Journalist David Ornstein has claimed on ‘The Athletic Football Podcast’ that things are not currently adding up regarding Graham Potter and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The striker has seemingly been surplus to requirements in recent weeks, with him often being left out of the squad completely.

His drop off can be summed up brilliantly by the treatment of him in the Champions League.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona man scored two important goals in the group stages against AC Milan, as the Blues performed a pretty remarkable turnaround.

However, with new signings needing to be registered, the Gabon star was left out of the squad for the knockout stages.

This reportedly came as a surprise to Aubameyang, who thought one of the players more likely to leave in January would have been more appropriate to be left out.

Potter decision not making sense

News then began to broke that he could be on the move despite the transfer window being closed in Europe. MLS champions LAFC made a move for the striker, although that interest appears to have not convinced the player.

Ornstein has claimed that the decision to not feature Aubameyang is strange, given he is hearing he is training extremely well.

He said: “It needs to be explained, Potter’s selections don’t marry with his words, it leaves the suspicion that there’s something deeper to this, it’s troubling because everything you hear from sources and contacts is that he’s done nothing wrong and trained impeccably”

While he is not likely to answer all of Chelsea’s issues in front of goal, there seems no harm in featuring the natural number nine more for the remainder of the season.

With the creative spark brought by the likes of Joao Felix and Enzo Fernandez, the Blues are crying for someone to convert the chances.
