Axel Disasi has shared in his first interview as a Chelsea player that he’s a massive fan of Blues cult hero David Luiz.

Chelsea confirmed on Friday morning that Axel Disasi, 25, has signed for the club on a six-year contract.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have paid £38.6million (Evening Standard) to sign the talented centre-back from Ligue 1 side Monaco.

He becomes the latest Frenchman to join the squad at Stamford Bridge, where he’ll link up with fellow countrymen Malo Gusto, Christopher Nkunku, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Disasi has shared that former Chelsea defender David Luiz is a player he greatly admires.

The Blues sold the 36-year-old centre-half to Arsenal for £8million (Sky Sports) four years ago, but he remains a very popular figure in West London with supporters.

“I liked David Luiz a lot! He was crazy. He was so fun to watch on the pitch and he could shoot from so far out. I like to do that sometimes too!” Disasi told the club’s official website.

Luiz was a little erratic and did sometimes divide opinion, but there’s no arguing how good he could be on his best days. He was a huge personality and a serial winner during two spells in Chelsea colours, too.

Remarkably, Disasi will look around the Chelsea dressing room and know he’s one of the more experienced heads in a very young squad.

The powerful centre-back will have the challenge of proving himself in the Premier League for the first time after success in France’s top division.

We’re very hopeful this could turn out to be a shrewd addition, though.

Interestingly, Frank Leboeuf recently said he thinks Disasi is currently better than Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill, as quoted by ESPN. However, it’s a possible defensive combination that we may get to see under Pochettino.
