Wesley Fofana received the big news on Thursday of a first senior call-up to the France squad.

Fofana, who’s represented his country at various age groups, will join the senior group for the first time next week during the international break.

The 22-year-old’s inclusion, confirmed on Twitter, is a reward for his recent performances in Chelsea colours.

His debut season at Stamford Bridge has been massively interrupted through injury, but he’s made a huge impact in the past couple of weeks in the starting XI.

Let’s hope he gets to make his full French debut against either the Netherlands or Republic of Ireland this month.

Delight for Wesley Fofana

Ben Chilwell, who’s been named in the England squad earlier today, is full of delight for his club teammate.

“Congrats brother, deserved,” Chilwell wrote on Instagram.

It seems inevitable that Fofana will have a massive future, albeit he just needs some better luck with injuries.

The ball-playing centre-back is looking a level above in the Blues line-up when he plays, so we’re not too surprised France have come calling. It’s certainly not easy breaking into such a competitive international squad, though.

He’s someone with the pace, strength and aggression to defend superbly. He definitely suits the right-hand side of Chelsea’s back three, too.

We’re definitely noticing a leadership and positivity around him as an individual. In fact, The Evening Standard recently claimed that Fofana is having a really positive impact on the Chelsea dressing room.
