Chelsea fans will be excited over what Reece James was already heard saying to Kalidou Koulibaly - opinion

Kalidou Koulibaly has joined up with his new Chelsea teammates following his transfer from Napoli, with Chelsea’s official website broadcasting his first few days with the club.

The Senegal international was announced as the club’s second signing of the Todd Boehly, following Raheem Sterling through the door prior to next season.

He has been tracked by Chelsea’s social media team since arriving with the squad in the United States, as they continue to provide fans with behind the scenes content from the tour.

One moment caught on camera was Koulibaly’s first encounter with Reece James, with the Englishman welcoming him to the club.

In the brief exchange, the 22-year-old was heard asking: “You ready to win trophies bro?”

The winning mentality is clearly already present in Chelsea’s squad, following their Champions League victory under Thomas Tuchel.

Last season saw them achieve great success in domestic cup competitions, however they failed to overcome Liverpool in either final.

The heart-breaking pair of defeats on penalties will only have increased the players’ hunger to succeed next season, with James quick to let new signing Koulibaly know their intentions going forward.

The former Napoli man is not short of his own success, with the defender notably winning the African Cup of Nations alongside new teammate Edouard Mendy earlier this year.

He has also achieved greatness at club level, winning the Italian Cup and Super Cup despite Juventus dominance throughout most of his Serie A years.

It is currently unclear when Koulibaly will make his debut for the Blues, with Sterling noticeably being eased into things despite joining before the defender.

With the marquee showdown of pre-season against Arsenal this weekend, Blues fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of their new defender before their Premier League curtain raiser against Everton.

With the 31-year-old having all this experience at the top, it provides the perfect platform for young defenders breaking through the club currently. With Thiago Silva’s influence on Trevoh Chalobah clear to see, supporters will be hoping Koulibaly can have a similar impact on Levi Colwill, whose talent has attracted much interest from top flight sides.
