Dylan Williams didn’t hide the fact he initially felt slightly worried after moving from Derby County to Chelsea.

Speaking for one of the first times since switching Pride Park for Stamford Bridge in January, Williams opened up about his emotions following that major move last month.

A refresh of Dylan Williams

The 18-year-old departed Derby for the bright lights of South West London as part of Chelsea’s extremely quiet winter window.

Wayne Rooney’s had only recently called him up to the first team before the Champions League holders came calling.

Having featured at left-wing back for the Rams boss, there was some speculation that his arrival could be to cover Marcos Alonso.

However, the defender instead linked up with Andy Myers’ struggling Under-23s, who are in dire need of some added quality.

Williams has since played twice for Chelsea’s academy sides, a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League 2 and a 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup.

Despite the inconsistent start to life as a Blue, the teenager explained how wonderful the experience had been so far.

“I was definitely a little nervous at first but everyone is so down to earth and they have welcomed and made me fit right into the set-up,” he admitted.

“If I am honest, I did not really know what to expect coming to a big club like Chelsea so it’s great to know that there are people who care so much about me on and off the pitch to ensure that I settle in as quickly as possible.’

“I think Andy, Ed (Brand) and all the coaching staff have been brilliant.

“They want players who are ready to battle and put their bodies on the line for the team and I am more than ready for that.”

Chelsea are surely happy to see Williams

Myers must be grateful to obtain Williams at a time where the young Blues seriously require some extra service.

The Under-23s are second to bottom in the table, with four wins from 18 matches.

Ironically, the only team below them is Derby; Williams has swapped one relegation survivor for another.

His experience in the Championship could prove vital if Chelsea are to avoid the drop this season.

“Looking more closely at the Under-23s, Andy has made it clear we need each other to ensure that we stay in PL2 and do not get relegated,” continued the full-back.

“I am ready for that battle and will work hard to help the team so that does not happen.”

That’s exactly the spirit we want to be hearing, Dylan!
