Jorginho has claimed in an interview with Football Italia that he was told last month he wasn’t part of Chelsea’s plans for the future.

The midfielder moved to Arsenal on deadline day, with the Gunners making an offer that they simply couldn’t refuse.

With just months left on his deal, the club would’ve perhaps been accepting that they were set to lose him for free at the end of the campaign.

The 31-year-old has begun to make his mark at Arsenal, with his strike at the weekend leading to his side’s third goal against Aston Villa.

Despite being an important player for the Blues for a number of years, Jorginho has claimed that he had been informed that he was not a part of Chelsea’s plans and was therefore seemingly free to leave.

Jorginho told he wasn’t part of Chelsea’s project

He said: “He called me and it was all very quick, we made the deal in less than 48 hours. I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me.

“It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision. Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.”

The Blues added to their midfield options even later on deadline day, when they smashed their club record fee for Enzo Fernandez.

Graham Potter has currently been working out the best way to utilise the World Cup winner, with him looking mostly for an ideal partner to compliment his abilities.

Supporters may be hoping for Denis Zakaria to return to fitness, after seeing the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher play with little success.
