'Incredible': Mateo Kovacic raves about Chelsea player after last night's 2-0 win over AC Milan
Mateo Kovacic raved about Chelsea teammate Mason Mount after an impressive win over AC Milan last night.
Chelsea secured an eye-catching 2-0 victory in the San Siro on Tuesday night, which followed success against the Italian champions last week at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have now moved to the top of their Champions League group after back-to-back wins against Milan.
Jorginho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were both on the scoresheet for the visitors. Meanwhile, former Blues defender Fikayo Tomori was sent off during the first-half for Milan.
Kovacic raved about Mount
Kovacic, who looked sharp in the Chelsea midfield against Milan, hailed one fellow teammate for his contribution in Italy.
Mount, 23, continued his great form since Graham Potter took charge as the club’s head coach.
The attacking midfielder was fouled for the penalty that saw Jorginho score and Tomori dismissed. Also, he assisted the Aubameyang goal with an intelligent flick.
“He’s doing it right for a few years now here at Chelsea, so nothing new from Mason. It’s incredible work rate, and in the end when his quality as well goes up, today an assist for the penalty, we are happy he’s in good form,” Kovacic said.
Mount, along with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, are the only Chelsea players to start all five of Potter’s games in charge.
Potter decided to withdraw Mount at half-time after his spectacular 45-minute performance against Milan. He was already on a yellow card during a hostile atmosphere, plus he’s played a lot of football recently.
Mount is increasingly becoming the creative hub in this new-look Blues side that are becoming a real threat going forward.
The England international was always going to regain top form after a mini dip at the start of the season, which is good news for Gareth Southgate ahead of the World Cup.
The Evening Standard claims that Mount is in line to become one of the highest earners at Chelsea with a new contract.
For certain, he deserves it.
