Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill is the latest to join the Thiago Silva fan club.

Levi Colwill, who’s only 20, is a Chelsea-owned defender currently impressing out on loan at Brighton.

He’s a young centre-back trying to learn all the tricks of the trade at the top level.

All young centre-halves should look no further than towards Thiago Silva for inspiration. The 38-year-old Brazilian continues to defy his age and perform in Chelsea colours as one of the world’s very best defenders.

Speaking with The Times, Colwill has described Silva as “a joke”.

The duo could end up being teammates together at Stamford Bridge in the next campaign, with Silva still under contract in West London until the summer of 2024. As for Colwill, he’ll be waiting to see if Graham Potter wants to promote him into the Chelsea first-team squad next season.

Silva is a master when it comes to reading the game and anticipating danger.

The £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) star is such a great role model to teammates in the Chelsea squad, so all youngsters should be like a sponge next to him.

We’re in the very fortunate position of having young centre-backs such as Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile to learn and pick his brain.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Chelsea have no intention of selling Colwill unless he demands to leave.

We’re very excited about the future of Colwill. At the same time, we don’t want to put too much pressure on him.

He’s passed every test he’s faced so far in his young career with flying colours, but the challenges will only keep getting on tougher.

The left-footed defender delivered a classy performance last week for England’s Under-21s. Let’s hope he can continue his form with Brighton during the final third of the season, too.
