'Massive player for us': Hudson-Odoi hails Chelsea teammate after yesterday's 3-1 win

Callum Hudson-Odoi was full of praise for Chelsea teammate Romelu Lukaku after yesterday’s 3-1 win against Aston Villa.

Chelsea came away from Villa Park with three points in the Premier League, as they showed great spirit to going a goal behind.

Lukaku, who came off the bench for the second half against Villa, helped swing the momentum massively towards the Blues.

The 28-year-old striker headed in a cross from Hudson-Odoi to put the visitors 2-1 in front at the time. Also, he was fouled in the box to earn a penalty that Jorginho converted to make certain of victory.

He’s not started a league fixture since mid-October, but sent out a real statement to his manager Thomas Tuchel with a colossal impact on Boxing Day that saw him bully the opposition defence. Ben Chilwell delivered a three-word reaction to the centre-forward’s cameo performance.

Hudson-Odoi described Lukaku as a “massive player” for Chelsea after the Boxing Day win.

“Rom is an amazing player. His strengths are very good for us upfront. He knows how to hold the ball up so we can play around him really well,” Hudson-Odoi said.

“When we get the balls into the box, he’s always there to try and get a header or control it and set it back for the player behind him.

“He’s a massive player for us and we have to keep going, keep feeding him the ball in and around the box and hopefully he can find the back of the net.”

Chelsea need weekend version of Lukaku

If Chelsea are to keep in the title conversation, Lukaku will need to perform like he did on the weekend more regularly than not.

The left-footed attacker showed why he’s the man to lead the Blues attack and why the club re-signed him in the summer to inject a better goal threat.

Tuchel’s squad do a decent job sharing the goals around, but it’s time for a talisman to step up.

He’s got four goals in 12 league appearances this campaign. Chelsea need him to stay fit for an extended period and to start firing the net on a regular basis like he’s shown in the past he’s capable of doing.
