Jamie Redknapp described Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as a “born warrior” after the win against Tottenham on Sunday evening.

Chelsea’s dominance over Spurs continued at the weekend after they secured a 2-0 home win.

Hakim Ziyech’s memorable left-footed strike put the hosts ahead at Stamford Bridge, which capped an excellent individual performance from him. Pat Nevin hailed the winger’s individual display at the weekend.

Blues defender Silva scored his team’s second goal with a great header.

Aged 37, the centre-back is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to impress with his performances.

He was at the centre of controversy when Harry Kane was judged to have fouled him before putting the ball in the net. It was a moment that could’ve put Spurs 1-0 ahead, but the visitors can have no complaints about another loss on their visit to Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports pundit Redknapp was full of praise for the veteran £105,000-a-week Brazilian on Sunday:

“What a signing he’s been (Silva)… He has been incredible,” Redknapp told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (6:40pm, 23 January).

“For the young players around him to learn from him, his experience. He defends well, heads it, wants to win. You can see he’s just a born warrior.”

Genius Chelsea transfer

For Chelsea, they played an absolute blinder by signing Silva on a free transfer in 2020.

The centre-half is 18 months into his spell at Stamford Bridge, and he’s already building quite the Blues legacy.

Of course, his key strength is what he’s providing at the back in Thomas Tuchel’s defence. He’s such a reliable figure at the back who’s delivering at least 7/10 performances every time he steps on the pitch.

He’s a big attacking threat, too. It’s now three Premier League goals for him already this season.

It’s fair enough that people questioned the signing when he joined so late in his career, but he definitely doesn’t play like he’s 37.
