‘Excellent’: Glenn Hoddle hails Chelsea man who played with a ‘smile on his face’ in Norwich win

Glenn Hoddle heavily praised Chelsea man Mason Mount for his performance against Norwich City at the weekend.

Mount scored a superb hat-trick during a 7-0 thrashing of Norwich City on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

The result lifted the Blues four points clear at the top of the Premier League, albeit they’ve now played a game more than some of their rivals.

Thomas Tuchel’s side play Southampton in the Carabao Cup next week before travelling to Newcastle United in their next Premier League encounter.

Hoddle, who selected Mount as his man of the match on commentary, noticed the Chelsea talisman played with a smile on his face.

The England international has taken time growing into this season, but there is no doubting what an integral part he’s been at Stamford Bridge in the last couple of years.

“The pick of the bunch is Mason Mount. He’s been excellent. Not just his goals, his all-round play. Beautiful taken strike [for the first goal]. He’s played with a smile on his face and today I think he’s been brilliant,” Hoddle told BT Sport 1 (2:15pm, 23 October).

Mount silences doubters against Norwich

For Mount, he bizarrely receives some criticism at times.

The 22-year-old’s three goals will hush some people and he’ll now hope to go on a positive run of contributing going forward. In addition, he provided a beautiful assist for Reece James’ goal with a well measured through ball.

Gary Lineker was someone who praised the attacking midfielder following his weekend outing.

Strength in depth looks unreal

You wouldn’t have known today that Chelsea were without Romelu Lukaku, N’Golo Kante, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic due to injuries.

The starting line-up that took to the field looked strong, plus there was some serious ammunition on the bench for Tuchel to use.

In fairness, neutrals may prefer the starting XI’s at clubs like Manchester City or Liverpool. However, the stacked squad at Chelsea is what makes them genuine contenders for the league crown based off the opening quarter of the season.
