Frank Leboeuf urges 23-year-old to leave Chelsea after failing to fully convince Tuchel

Former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf insisted Christian Pulisic should consider leaving Chelsea in the summer since he does not expect the winger to play regularly under Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel singled out the 23-year-old in his post-match interviews after the winger missed a big chance that could have secured the win for Chelsea in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

This, the manager said, “happens too often”.

Obviously, Pulisic is not solely to blame for the underwhelming result after such a dominant display from the Blues.

Kai Havertz, who came on in the second half, also missed a big chance, and this team should arguably have been able to create more goalscoring opportunities in the first place.

However, according to Leboeuf, the situation at Chelsea is far from ideal for Pulisic.

“I think [there is] a question mark that he is more influential in the national team than Chelsea,” the former France international told ESPN FC when speaking about Pulisic.

“With the future at Chelsea, I don’t see him playing a lot.

“That’s more of advice than my willing to see him leaving.

“If he still wants to be the ‘Captain America’ next season, he will have to find another team.

“Because if Pulisic stays, with [Timo] Werner, [Kai] Havertz, [Mason] Mount, and maybe [a new attacker] coming in, I don’t see him playing.

“He never showed that it’s absolutely crucial to have him in the first eleven. I think he will have to go.”

Difficult to find rhythm for Pulisic at Chelsea

The former Borussia Dortmund star has made just 13 starts in the Premier League this season with just one more game to play.

Instead of cementing his spot as a key player, Pulisic has actually started fewer Premier League games each season since joining Chelsea in 2019.

Injuries played a big part, of course, but it is also obvious that the likes of Havertz and Mount are ahead of him in the pecking order.

It remains unclear if Chelsea are willing to let go of such a talented young player, though.

He has the potential — he showed it already, but Leboeuf made a good point that it could be difficult for him to gain his rhythm amid fierce competition for spots at Chelsea.
