Graeme Souness thinks the Chelsea job is a fantastic opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino.

All the noise in the media suggests that Mauricio Pochettino, 51, will return to management next season.

The Argentine coach has been strongly linked with Chelsea’s vacant managerial position.

He’s been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last year. Premier League audiences will know him well from his previous time at Tottenham and Southampton, though.

According to The Times, Chelsea could actually offer the job to Pochettino by tonight as senior figures meet in Los Angeles to make a final decision.

Souness believes the Chelsea job could be a good fit for Pochettino on his return to the Premier Laegue.

However, he does raise concerns over the striker position.

“What a great job Chelsea would be for Mauricio Pochettino. There are the makings of a very good squad there,” Souness told the Daily Mail.

“His main problem would be exactly the same one that Graham Potter struggled with. The lack of a top-class striker. The challenge is to find one.”

Chelsea’s next manager, whether that be Pochettino or someone else, needs to find a solution for Chelsea’s centre-forward position.

Romelu Lukaku, 29, is scheduled to return to the Blues this summer from his loan at Inter Milan. However, we feel like it would take a huge U-turn for the Belgian striker to revive his career at Stamford Bridge.

Incidentally, journalist Simon Phillips wrote on his Substack that Pochettino has not actively asked for Lukaku to return during conversations with Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Tottenham frontman Harry Kane is now being linked with Chelsea. We’re not overly surprised given Pochettino, his former manager, is close to landing the role of Blues head coach.

TalkSPORT reported this week that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is braced for offers from Chelsea this summer for 29-year-old Kane.
