Tony Cascarino believes Chelsea fans have seen the last of Romelu Lukaku in their colours.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino refused to entertain the idea of the striker ever stepping foot in Stamford Bridge again as a home player.
Lukaku hasn’t graced the turf in South West London since he re-joined Inter Milan on loan last summer.
His club-record move from the Serie A side to Chelsea at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign ended just 12 months later.
The 29-year-old suffered on a variety of levels, including through injury, falling out with Thomas Tuchel and a general lack of form.
He was allowed to rather sheepishly head back to the San Siro, just a season after swapping it for the English capital.
Unfortunately for the forward, his bad luck did not conclude once he pulled on the Inter jersey once again.
Romelu Lukaku has been rocked
Just a handful of games into the current term, Lukaku sustained a hamstring problem that side-lined him from August to October.
No sooner had the Belgian recovered, he was restored to the treatment room with a fresh issue.
This latest wound put Lukaku’s World Cup dreams under serious doubt.
Roberto Martinez took the risk by including Lukaku in his squad, a gabble that ultimately did not pay off.
His performance in the final group game will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
No Chelsea reunion for Romelu
With the tournament now over, one that ended early for Belgium, the misfiring attacker can now focus on reigniting his club career.
One that, according to Cascarino, will not continue at Chelsea.
“Graham Potter, I don’t think would want to take back Romelu Lukaku. I don’t think he fits in to how he wants to player football. Unfortunately, he had a really bad time at Chelsea, in my opinion,” said the former Blues front man.
“I don’t know if we’ve seen the best at Romelu Lukaku. He played his best football at Inter Milan. You have to go quite a long way back in the Premier League. His numbers were good at Manchester United, but he didn’t play how Manchester United or the fans thought he should be playing to a certain style.
“I don’t see a future back for Romelu Lukaku (at Chelsea). Don’t have a player who doesn’t want to come back.”
Lukaku evidently has no plans to reclaim his spot in the Chelsea dressing room.
He recently said in an interview: “I hope to stay at Inter, Inter for me is everything. But we need to find a way with Chelsea.”
If this isn’t a man trying his best not to link up with Potter and his men, we aren’t sure what is.
