'It's crazy': Rio Ferdinand raves about £135m player Chelsea reportedly want to sign
Rio Ferdinand has raved about the quality of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, who’s a player Chelsea reportedly want to sign.
Bellingham, 19, was in action last night during Dortmund’s goalless draw against Manchester City in the Champions League group stages.
The all-action midfielder has been a key player for German side Dortmund this season, scoring eight goals across all competitions so far.
England supporters will hope the teenager can shine during the winter World Cup, too.
Ferdinand raved about Bellingham
Ferdinand waxed lyrical about Dortmund’s young sensation last night after his latest performance.
In particular, he thinks it’s “crazy” how intelligent he is on the pitch for someone his age.
“He’s everywhere on the pitch, and when he receives the ball, he can even receive the ball as a number nine and kept the ball,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“He ghosts around the pitch, and never looks out of place anywhere he receives the ball.
“You talk to some of the coaches who coached him as a young player, in the youth systems with England, he could play the holding midfield role as well as he could play the number 10 role, or as an eight.
“It’s crazy in terms of game understanding.”
Chelsea links
Bild claimed earlier this month that Chelsea are actually favourites to beat Real Madrid and Liverpool to Bellingham’s signature.
This comes after Fabrizio Romano said Dortmund’s central midfielder may actually cost a colossal transfer figure of £135million.
For Chelsea fans, it’s great to hear their name in the hat for one of the best young midfielders in the sport.
The 19-year-old is putting in mature performances every week as a senior figure for Dortmund, so the potential he’s got moving forward is frightening.
It would be an absolute dream signing at Stamford Bridge, but supporters will be reluctant to get too excited until something more concrete emerges.
Dortmund’s policy of selling a marquee player each summer, like Erling Haaland to Manchester City, means people are already speculating about Bellingham.
It’s going to be a really significant deal for English football wherever he ends up.
