Jamie Carragher has reacted on Twitter to the breaking news that Chelsea have sacked Graham Potter.

The Blues have confirmed on their official website this evening that Graham Potter has departed.

Bruno Saltor will take charge of the team as the interim head coach, with Chelsea’s next fixture taking place on Tuesday night at home to Liverpool.

Potter, who was only appointed as the head coach earlier in the season, took charge for the last time in the weekend’s 2-0 loss against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

He’s now followed Thomas Tuchel as the second manager to go since the new ownership took control just under a year ago.

The writing may have been on the wall as journalist David Ornstein reported to NBC Sports that Chelsea’s ownership group were set to hold a meeting regarding Potter’s future. They’ve now decided to pull the trigger.

Carragher has quickly jumped on social media on Sunday night with a response to Potter’s departure:

“Todd [Boehly] said he would be different to Roman [Abramovich]. I feel for Graham Potter, but it was inevitable. You don’t change Tuchel for Potter. Ridiculous decision to start with,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.

He has raised question marks over Potter’s original appointment. The 47-year-old coach was very highly thought of for his work at Brighton, but the move to London has never really taken off.

All eyes will be on the owners to see who replaces him in the dugout.

Chelsea’s Premier League season looks all-but over as they sit mid-table. However, there is a huge Champions League quarter-final showdown with Real Madrid later this month.

We feel like the pressure from an unsettled fanbase has now finally backed Chelsea’s owners into a corner.

You must have some sympathy for Potter, who has been in the unique position of having such an oversized squad of high-profile names.

However, there is no hiding from the fact this group are massively underachieving.

It’s a very steep learning curve for the Englishman during his first job at one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, but don’t rule him out from achieving success elsewhere further down the line.
