Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Wilfried Zaha on Sky Sports following Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The 29-year-old scored the opener of the evening, as Patrick Vieira’s side looked to withstand serious pressure from their counterparts.

They were even handed a massive chance to take all three points after Darwin Nunez’s red card, but a sensational Luis Diaz strike rescued a point for the Reds.

However, the story of the night was Zaha, who featured in a central striker role up against Virgil van Dijk and Nat Phillips.

Carragher was left impressed by the Ivory Coast international’s performance, with his goal particularly catching the pundit’s eye.

Carragher impressed by Zaha

“Liverpool played well for most of the game but this was always the plan from Palace or any team coming up against them. Fabinho doesn’t do well at all but you have to look at the body position of Nat Phillips, compared to Zaha. If it was another team you’d say go in behind but Liverpool don’t do that.

“I think Van Dijk can sprint across and get into Zaha’s eyeline but the finish is absolutely out of this world against one of the best goalkeepers in world football. That is always going to be a problem that channel with pace.”

Chelsea have been linked with a deal for the Palace man throughout this summer, as they look for a compliment to the signing of Raheem Sterling up top.

Todd Boehly has been mentioned as a figure who was particularly interested in striking a deal, however things have gone quiet on that front.

His importance to his side was shown yet again last night, and even though rumours have been around for a while of him leaving, it is unlikely Vieira will want him to be going anywhere.
