BBC pundit Micah Richards claimed on Match of the Day that Chelsea are blessed with two fantastic goalkeepers at the club.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was sensational again last night for the Blues. Despite the club dropping two points, it could have been more if it had not been for the Spain international.
The fixture was Kepa’s seventh start in a row under Graham Potter, with him being the only goalkeeper the new manager has trusted with the gloves so far.
His faith has certainly been repaid so far, most notably by the sensational performance he brought out at Villa Park last weekend.
This has seen Edouard Mendy not handed a chance since Potter took over, something which would have been unimaginable just a year ago.
Richards praises Chelsea goalkeepers
Richards has claimed though that the competition will only help the Blues, with the quality of them both a real asset.
He said: “He was outstanding against Aston Villa last game and he carried on that form today.
“He started the last eight games and has kept five clean sheets in a row. Some of his saves you might think they’re not that outstanding, but it’s his positioning and knowing where to be.
“He kept that form going from Villa, I think with Potter because he likes to play out, he’s better than Mendy with his feet. Chelsea have two top goalkeepers.”
Mendy will be hopeful that he is given his chance under the new manager soon, especially with his contract situation still up in the air.
If he continues to be out of favour, there could be a world where the former UEFA goalkeeper of the year is forced to find a new club in order to continue his playing career.
Nevertheless, having two great options for one position is certainly a strong position to be in.
