Steven Gerrard believes Chelsea target Andre Onana was “fantastic” last night during Inter Milan’s triumph in the Champions League.

Inter Milan comfortably beat rivals AC Milan in this year’s Champions League semi-final, winning 3-0 on aggregate across the two legs.

Simone Inzaghi’s side recorded a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night in the second leg, which now means they’ll face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final.

On top of some exciting forward play, Inter’s outstanding defence has proven to be the bedrock of their success this campaign in Europe.

Andre Onana has kept eight clean sheets in his 12 Champions League matches this season, so perhaps it’s no real surprise they’ve plotted a route all the way to the final next month.

We’ve heard recent speculation that Chelsea may be on the search for a new keeper this summer.

According to The Telegraph earlier in May, Chelsea are eager to move into pole position to sign Inter’s £40million-rated star Onana.

The 27-year-old colossus goalkeeper is enjoying a brilliant individual season at the San Siro, especially in Europe.

In our view, Inter’s number one definitely looks like the kind of upgrade in-between the sticks we need at Chelsea next season.

However, can the Blues still attract the top stars without European football next season?

BT Sport pundit and England great Gerrard was blown away by Onana’s performance yesterday in Inter’s win.

“He could wear number 10 on his back. He’s like Ederson,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“All night he’s getting pressed; he’s under pressure; in sticky situations, he’s calm and collected. He can play long and play short.

“I loved watching the keeper tonight. He was fantastic.”
