Pundit says 23-year-old needs to leave after rumours Chelsea want him

'The big one': TalkSPORT pundit suggests 23-year-old needs to leave, after rumours Chelsea want to sign him

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has claimed that Declan Rice needs a move away from West Ham if he is to reach the top level as a player.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea for a number of years now.

He of course has a patterned history with the Blues. Rice will be one of the nine academy graduates representing their nation at this winter’s World Cup.

The midfielder will almost certainly start for Gareth Southgate’s men, alongside fellow Chelsea target Jude Bellingham.

The World Cup could be a player’s opportunity to prove they have the quality on the biggest stage to impress some of the elite sides looking to find their next big transfer.

Rice told to leave West Ham

Rice will no doubt have this in the back of his mind, and Bent has claimed that a move is required from the Hammers captain if he is to make the jump to the next level.

He said: “Declan Rice is the big one [needing a move]. He’s been incredibly loyal to West Ham, he’s their captain, he loves the club but someone who has that quality should be looking at Champions League football or a team competing at that end of the table.

“I know West Ham have been there or there about, but I mean a team that is pushing for major honours and looking to get to that level, that will improve him as a player.”

Rice’s well-documented relationship with crucial Chelsea man Mason Mount could influence the 23-year-old’s decision if he is forced to pick between a number of sides.

However, there is some doubt over the future of Mount at Stamford Bridge, with rumours of an exit not going away as a contract stalemate has taken place.
