Chelsea scouted £35m talent for months before signing him, they’re now set to sanction a sale

Of late, Chelsea’s transfer strategy has centred around signing young players with high ceilings.

It is a transfer strategy that is producing results in more ways than one. For example, Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City when the attacking midfielder was 21, and he has been an absolute revelation for them.

Palmer just helped the Blues to win the Club World Cup after scoring two goals in the final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea have also just sold Noni Madueke to Arsenal for £52m. They bought the 23-year-old from PSV Eindhoven for around £30m so have made a hefty profit on him.

It has been reported that Chelsea are satisfied with Madueke’s sale, which is unlikely to be the last at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea scouted Renato Veiga for months

Renato Veiga is expected to depart Stamford Bridge, which may disappoint some at the club. A lot of work went into bringing in the versatile defender from Basel a year ago.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea scouted Veiga for months and saw him as an individual with huge potential.

That did not stop them from loaning him out to Juventus in January, though, and it now looks like they will sell the 21-year-old permanently.

It is a shame, as Veiga still has plenty to offer. The Portuguese can play at left-back and centre-back, with Enzo Maresca currently lacking options in the former.

Marc Cucurella thrived there last season, but Chelsea do not have any cover for him. That could change if Chelsea sign Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, who is very similar to Veiga.

Like the Portugal international, Hato can also play on the left side of defence or centrally. Bearing that in mind, the Club World Cup winners could save themselves a lot of money by just keeping hold of Veiga instead.

However, Veiga’s desire to play regularly forces Chelsea’s hand a little bit, while the club know they can make a profit by selling the former Basel man.

Potential destinations for Renato Veiga this summer

Chelsea bought Veiga for £12m and want around €40m (£34.6m) for him, Romano has shared on X. It is significantly more than what they paid, but the Blues trying to make profit on a player who they no longer want is not deterring interested parties.

For example, Atletico Madrid remain keen on Veiga, while Romano has reported that Bayern Munich and teams in the Premier League are also interested in his signature.
