There are murmurs coming out of Italy that Chelsea are planning to use Nicolas Jackson in a swap deal this summer, for a player eyed as the ideal replacement for Marc Cucurella.

The problem Chelsea have this summer, is they are shopping in a top-end market without the necessary funds or the lure of Europe to do so. Chelsea failed to qualify for Europe and have taken a financial hit.

The positive is that Chelsea have a small army of players they can sell, and the lack of European football means players will be tempted to go if a Champions League side is keen. Marc Cucurella, for example.

Nicolas Jackson returns to Chelsea after a Bayern Munich loan spell in a tricky position. There are some reports saying he could stay under Xabi Alonso, while Wayne Rooney thinks the World Cup is an audition.

Chelsea need a left-back after selling Cucurella and have been linked with plenty of left-sided options. They include Alvaro Carreras at Real Madrid, Uruguay’s World Cup hero Maxi Araujo and plenty more.

But the best option Chelsea are considering is Andrea Cambiaso. A player that Rafa Benitez has lauded in recent analysis of the Italian, and a player that Juventus are willing to sell for a modest fee of just £35m.

With Juventus said to be eyeing Jackson, some reports in Italy have suggested that a straight-swap deal could be orchestrated between Juventus and Chelsea that would see Cambiaso and Jackson trade clubs.

But Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, said: “Many reports coming from Italy. Chelsea enquire about Cambiaso. Chelsea in talks to sign Cambiaso. Chelsea working on a deal to sign Cambiaso.

“Today the new report is swap deal. Jackson to Juventus. Cambiaso to Chelsea. This is what they are reporting in Italy. I’m told that there is nothing concrete into this,” Romano said, amid the reports.

“Who knows what deal with Jackson and also Chelsea at the moment not entering strong for Cambiaso. This is the understanding despite the reports from Italy,” the Italian journalist continued on Cambiaso.

Why Andrea Cambiaso is the perfect signing for Chelsea…

Off the pitch, and in terms of Chelsea’s coffers, Cambiaso is the best they can get for £35m. Chelsea made a book profit of £17.5m on Cucurella, while raking in an initial fee of £47.5m from Real Madrid for him.

Who would you sign to replace Marc Cucurella? 🫵

Andrea Cambiaso is the latest player to be linked.

They have the cash, and would make an immediate profit when comparing the signing of Cambiaso and the sale of Cucurella. On the pitch, Cambiaso is the closest Chelsea have been linked with, to Cucurella.

Defensively solid, but perhaps even better going forward, Cambiaso is not a young talent. But a widely experienced player with 19 Italy caps aged 26. He gets crosses in, and stops crosses going in defensively.

There’s no wonder that alongside Chelsea, Barcelona are interested – as are Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. Man City made a £56m bid for Cambiaso last summer. Juventus are open to sale, as well.
