Leeds have now made a bid to sign Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea – a player Mauricio Pochettino is willing to sell.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the situation involving Ethan Ampadu at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Wales international spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Spezia in Italy, where he made 31 appearances in Serie A.

Unfortunately, it seems as if Ampadu did not do enough to impress those at Chelsea, as he finds himself up for sale at Stamford Bridge.

The Evening Standard reported last week that the 22-year-old is expected to be part of a ‘loan squad’ led by Carlo Cudicini who train separately from the main group, as Chelsea attempt to sell them.

Now – according to the latest update from the Evening Standard – Ampadu did train under Pochettino in the past week and is part of the squad flying out to the United States, although he is still on the market with Chelsea looking for £12m.

It is said that the Exeter-born defender could now stay behind at Cobham to seal an exit rather than go on the pre-season tour, as Udinese are also interested in his services along with Leeds.

However, the offer from Elland Road is the only concrete bid on the table for Ampadu as things stand – according to the Evening Standard.

Chelsea would do well to receive £12m for Ampadu

In our view, a £12m asking price for Ampadu – who Maurizio Sarri once tipped to be “the future” of Chelsea, as quoted by Sky Sports – is quite ambitious.

The Chelsea academy graduate only has 12 months remaining on his contract, and did not exactly shine in Italy’s top-flight last season despite a number of steady performances.

Given the fact Leeds have also just been relegated, it seems unlikely that Daniel Farke will be allowed to spend £12m on a player who will be available on a free transfer next summer.

Nevertheless, Ampadu is a talented footballer with room to improve, so Leeds may be tempted to invest heavily in his potential – be sure to keep an eye on this situation for more developments.
