Mauricio Pochettino is now likely to ask Ethan Ampadu to train away from the main group at Chelsea when he arrives at Cobham for pre-season.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the latest on Ethan Ampadu at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Spezia in Italy.

Ampadu made 31 appearances in Serie A for the Italian side, although by the sounds of it, he didn’t do enough to convince Pochettino that he is worthy of a first-team opportunity next term.

The Evening Standard believe the Wales international is expected to end up away from the first-team group in a ‘loan squad’ headed by Carlo Cudicini, which includes a number of players Chelsea are looking to sell.

If this update is true, it represents a setback for Ampadu, who Maurizio Sarri once tipped to be “the future” of Chelsea, as quoted by Sky Sports.

The Exeter-born defender, who is currently Chelsea’s longest serving player after Baba Rahman departed, now finds himself in a very uncertain situation, with only 12 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Where Ampadu could go this summer as Chelsea look to sell

As Chelsea attempt to sell their academy graduate, one club are keen to have him.

A story from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy claims that Udinese are hoping to sign Ampadu this summer, although he would have to take a pay cut in order to fit into the Serie A side’s wage structure.

Ampadu is said to earn £37,000-a-week at Chelsea.

If he does express a willingness to take a pay cut, then it is possible that more sides will begin to show interest in the Wales international.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Pochettino attempts to sell Ampadu this summer.
