French top-flight club Strasbourg are now involved in talks with Chelsea about the potential signing of Andrey Santos.

That is according to today’s breaking transfer rumours.

Andrey Santos, who’s still only 19, joined Chelsea a year ago in an £18 million deal (Independent) from Vasco da Gama.

The Brazilian midfielder spent the first half of this season out on loan with Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, but the spell at the City Ground was cut short after only a couple of appearances for them.

He was recalled to Stamford Bridge by the Blues. Now, with less than two days left in the January transfer window, the teenager’s linked with a fresh move.

The Evening Standard claims today that Chelsea youngster Santos is in talks to leave on loan for the rest of the season.

It is understood that the 19-year-old is in discussions to join Strasbourg, who are Chelsea’s sister club. They’re both under the same multi-club network under the BlueCo umbrella.

The report adds that Strasbourg manager Patrick Vieira is prepared to welcome Santos into his squad, which already includes one Blues loanee in the shape of Angelo Gabriel.

Andrey Santos in talks with Strasbourg

We’re optimistic this is a sensible move for Chelsea’s highly-rated central midfielder.

It looks a tough ask to get any first-team minutes at Chelsea in the second half of the season, but Strasbourg are a young Ligue 1 side that could give him a much better platform to develop in 2024.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed via X that Chelsea believe Santos is a “top talent” with big potential.

If the South American midfielder gets minutes in the second half of the campaign, we see Strasbourg as being a great fit for him.

Hopefully, the clubs haven’t left it too late in the winter window to get the deal done.
