Chelsea currently have an extremely large amount of players on their books, so it’s quite clear that some of them will need to play their football elsewhere next season to develop.
Head coach Enzo Maresca has inherited a massive squad where it’s impossible to fit everyone in.
Andrey Santos has already returned to Strasbourg on a season-long loan this summer. Incidentally, The Athletic claimed in June that Chelsea believe Santos’ valuation has shot up since he joined them.
Blues defender Alfie Gilchrist also completed a season-long loan move this week to Sheffield United. Hopefully, this gets the ball rolling and plenty more Chelsea talents get the right loan moves during the remainder of the summer window.

Omari Kellyman already looking for loan
Chelsea paid £19m (BBC) at the end of June to buy Omari Kellyman from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
It was claimed by Football.London that Kellyman was left off Chelsea’s pre-season tour due to injury. There’s now speculation that he won’t be joining up with the first-team squad for the upcoming campaign.
Respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via Substack on Thursday that Kellyman is one of several Chelsea youngsters looking to go out on loan still this summer.
Apparently, there’s a chance that the Blues keep a strong core to play in their Under-21s side, though.
Kellyman only just arrived through the entrance doors at Stamford Bridge, but he could be heading straight back out to continue his development.
Is there a path into the Chelsea first team next season?
Kellyman, who’s just 18, is a talented attacking midfielder who’s shown a lot of promise for Villa. However, his arrival at Chelsea did come as a bit of a surprise this summer to some fans.
Realistically, it would be very difficult for the English teenager to break into Maresca’s side, especially now he’s missed the pre-season trip.
In terms of options in the No 10 position, the Blues have high-profile names such as Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku or Carney Chukwuemeka to play there.
Kellyman’s most sensible move may turn out to be an immediate loan, so let’s just hope he’s another individual that doesn’t get lost in the system.
