Chelsea could end up sending David Datro Fofana to Sevilla for the second half of this season.

David Datro Fofana is currently on loan at Union Berlin; however, the loan could be terminated.

If it is, Sevilla are well placed to sign the forward, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The outlet claims that the Spanish club are making progress in their bid to land Fofana, though Union Berlin are reconsidering cancelling his loan.

Fofana’s time in Berlin has not exactly gone to plan, with the 21-year-old having not always seen eye to eye with former manager Urs Fischer.

David Datro Fofana should join Sevilla

If Fofana has the chance to leave Union Berlin this month and join Sevilla, then he should take it. Again, the Ivorian’s loan spell in Germany has not gone well.

For example, Fofana has only scored one Bundesliga goal in the current campaign. That record and what happened with Fischer, the player giving the 57-year-old the cold shoulder after being taken off in one game, sums everything up.

A move to Sevilla would hardly be a terrible thing either. They are not doing too well in La Liga right now, but they are playing in a strong division that could really test the Ivory Coast international and cause him to push himself.

That is not a criticism of the Bundesliga. But for whatever reason, it is just not working out for him there at the moment. If he stays there, it is going to be a waste of a season for both the player and Chelsea, who will now be wondering if they should have sent him somewhere else.

One thing that is clear is that Fofana is probably still a bit too raw to be part of Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad. It is unlikely that he will return and stay at Stamford Bridge this month.
