Mauricio Pochettino has already received bad news just a few days into his time at Chelsea after an update on Manuel Ugarte.
A post from journalist Franco Fernandez on Twitter claimed that the 22-year-old’s arrival at Stamford Bridge could be confirmed this week after the Blues struck an agreement with Sporting CP.
However – according to Record in Portugal – Chelsea now have a problem in their pursuit of Ugarte.
What’s the story?
Well, the Portuguese news outlet believe the Uruguay international is now having second thoughts about joining Chelsea after the Blues revealed the personal terms on offer.
Record state that – while Ugarte prefers to join Chelsea over PSG – he finds himself in a dilemma, as the Blues are offering 50% of the wages he could earn at the Parc des Princes with a €2m (£1.7m) annual salary.

It is said that the South American met Todd Boehly on Tuesday, which is when he found out about the contract proposal.
A post from Fabrizio Romano on Twitter claimed that Pochettino has approved the signing of Ugarte and is desperate to have the Sporting CP No.15 alongside Enzo Fernandez in midfield next season.
However, the 51-year-old will seemingly have to convince Boehly to increase the wages on offer to Ugarte if he is to beat PSG to the midfield maestro’s signature.
Chelsea must increase Ugarte salary offer
In our view, it would not be an ideal start to the Pochettino era if Boehly cannot deliver a player the Argentine seems desperate to have at Stamford Bridge.
We would partly understand why Chelsea would be apprehensive about matching PSG’s salary offer to Ugarte if Boehly and his colleagues felt the Uruguayan wasn’t a priority.
However, finding a partner for Fernandez in midfield is arguably one of the most important things Chelsea need to do this summer, so this deal cannot be messed up.
Previously, Record have claimed that Chelsea are already happy to trigger Ugarte’s £52m release clause, so the wages on offer must be increased in order to get this transfer over the line early, before the competition grows beyond PSG.
