Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo is reportedly about to sign a new contract with them, after recently receiving transfer links to Chelsea.
According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old is set to extend his current deal with Spanish giants Barcelona.
In addition, his new contract at Camp Nou is going to have a mammoth release clause worth £1 billion.
Araujo has been in and out of the Barca line-up during the last few years while he develops his game, but this year’s been a real breakthrough season with 34 appearances across all competitions so far.
The Uruguay international is a highly-rated defender that could be a solution for the La Liga giants for the next decade.
Interestingly, Chelsea have received links to the South American centre-back.
It was even reported last month that the Blues have held advanced talks to sign him. However, staying with Barcelona has always been on the cards.

Chelsea defence worrying
A lot of the Blues success in the past couple of years has been built around their formidable defence, something that has deserted them in the last two games.
It’s going to be intriguing to see what the back three or back four looks like at the start of next season at Stamford Bridge.
Hopefully, the change of ownership is swift enough to allow the club to permit in transfer activity when the transfer window opens again.
For certain, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel needs to be granted funds to sort the defence as a priority due to potential exits.
