Chelsea are unlikely to be one player’s first-choice destination if he decides to leave his club this summer.

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, with one football agent claiming that the Blues are the only Premier League club who would be willing to pay his €100m (£85m) release clause.

However, according to GiveMeSport, the 25-year-old is interested in joining AC Milan and would prefer a move there over one to England.

Gyokeres has been in incredible form this season so may very well have options this summer.

In total, he has scored 32 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea can still beat AC Milan to Viktor Gyokeres’ signature

Even if Gyokeres wants to join AC Milan, you still cannot rule Chelsea out.

Chelsea have money, the kind of money needed to activate an £85m release clause. Do Milan?

Just because the Blues have the cash, though, does not mean that they should go out and spend a chunk of it on Gyokeres.

According to Record, Chelsea recently sent scouts to watch Sporting versus Benfica, where they likely looked at the Sweden international.

He scored in the 2-1 win, which may have convinced the Blues even further. But let’s not forget that this is the first season where Gyokeres has been prolific in a top European league. Before dropping £85m on him, the likes of Chelsea and Milan would probably be wise to wait and see if he can replicate the campaign he is having again.

Sitting 11th in the Premier League table, though, Chelsea could probably do with a new striker coming in now. So it would not be a shock if they moved for Gyokeres, despite his massive release clause, or another centre-forward before the start of the 2024/25 season, with Victor Osimhen another name being linked to Stamford Bridge.
