Chelsea could be about to miss out on one of their main targets for the summer, according to reports.
Despite profit and sustainability rules, Chelsea could still be quite active in the upcoming transfer window.
The Blues need a new centre-forward, as Nicolas Jackson is the only natural No.9 at Stamford Bridge at the minute.
The club may also need to add another centre-back to their squad. They have had a lot of injuries in that department this season, while Thiago Silva looks set for the exit door.
His contract expires in the summer and Chelsea have not discussed his future yet.
Chelsea target close to joining European giants
In terms of who could replace Silva at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are interested in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
As for the centre-forward who could come in to take Jackson’s place in the team, the Blues have been heavily linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Last month, HITC claimed that the Nigerian was at the top of Chelsea’s shortlist of No.9s.
However, it now looks like they could miss out on him, with Italian outlet Il Mattino reporting that Osimhen is very close to joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea can still have hope of beating PSG to Victor Osimhen’s signature
Chelsea should not give up on Osimhen just yet. The 25-year-old possibly favouring a move to the Parc des Princes right now should not completely deter them.
It was only in January when the Nigeria international stated that he will definitely play in the Premier League one day.
The offer of Premier League football and right financial package should be enough to help Chelsea lure Osimhen to west London.
Of course, the Blues need to be cautious of the division’s profit and sustainability rules, which is perhaps why they have not made a proper move for Osimhen yet. PSG have seemingly taken advantage of the situation that they currently find themselves in.
